Late Lodgement Penalties, What can i do about it? – BBQ Talk 22

Late Lodgement Penalties, What can i do about it? – BBQ Talk 22

I was a bit late lodging my tax return this year and they have imposed penalties and interest on top of my tax bill. Have I got to just pay these extra costs or do I have the right to appeal?

Ans (Debbie from Affinitas)

Bob should definitely contact an accountant and discuss whether he has a case to put to the ATO for full or partial remittance of the fines and interest.

You have the right to appeal to them directly, but often our experience at dealing with these matters and communicating with the ATO can be very beneficial at times like this.
